“Njan Dubai-il puthiya kari vaangi”you said car

Gulf Malayalam borrows constantly: khallas, yalla, the shop name, the model number, English and Arabic in almost every sentence. A Malayalam-only model forces each borrowed word into the nearest Malayalam sound, which is how car came back as kari. Kalakar's Malayalam setting was tuned with Kerala-based editors on Malayalam as it's spoken on YouTube and Instagram, at home and in the Gulf, and it keeps loanwords as spoken in both scripts.

Malayalam script for Kerala, Manglish for the Gulf

Malayalam script for film commentary, news, education, devotional content and the long-form vlogs Malayalam YouTube is known for. Kerala has a real reading culture in its own script, and those viewers expect it. Manglish for the Gulf, where Malayalis in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar type Malayalam in English letters every day and their children read the script slowly. Both come from one transcription with identical timings, so a channel with both audiences exports both.

Fix one loanword. The chillu keeps its shape.

Every word carries its own timing, so when car comes back as kari you tap it and type, and nothing around it moves. Find and replace catches the same slip through a long vlog. The ർ at the end of ഷെയർ stays a single chillu glyph, not a full letter with a mark under it, and a compound like ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ് moves to the next line whole.

Malayalam vlogs are long and shot in the car, on the road, with an outdoor stretch somewhere in the middle. That noise makes a model already struggling with Arabic and English loanwords guess worse. Turn on audio enhancement and Kalakar transcribes from the cleaned track. For a long vlog it pays back more than any edit you'll make afterwards, so run it before you generate, not after.

How to caption Malayalam in Kalakar

Pick Malayalam, pick your script, and check one chillu and the longest compound before you trust the rest. Export a burned-in MP4 for Reels, SRT or VTT for YouTube, or an alpha render for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and watch it once on a phone with the sound off, because that's how the Gulf will see it.

1. Upload your video. Drag an MP4 or MOV into app.kalakar.io. Vertical 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, or 16:9 for YouTube; both are supported.
2. Select Malayalam as the spoken language. Pick Malayalam from the language menu. Turn on audio enhancement first if the recording is noisy.
